PROJECTS
More than a year later, the heterojunction photovoltaic (HJ) camp has once again welcomed a photovoltaic giant.
On November 28th, Huasheng New Energy announced that Canadian Solar has officially joined the China High-Efficiency Heterojunction Club (referred to as the 760W+ Club).
The High-Efficiency Heterojunction Club Continues to Grow
In recent years, as the industry has collectively moved towards the "N-type era," giants such as Jinko Solar, Trina Solar, and JA Solar have focused on TOPCon cells, while Aiko Solar and LONGi Green Energy have used BC cells as a breakthrough, generating much discussion in the industry.
In comparison, the previously highly anticipated heterojunction cells seem to have become a "niche route."
In March 2024, ten heterojunction photovoltaic solar energy companies, including Huasheng New Energy and Risen Energy, jointly launched the "High-Efficiency Heterojunction 740W+ Club" in Shanghai. Through multiple meetings and exchanges, club members shared innovative technologies and solutions, accelerating the development of heterojunction battery technology.
In June 2024, the club welcomed Tongwei Co., Ltd., one of the two leading silicon material battery manufacturers, significantly enhancing its strength. In March 2025, the club was upgraded to the 760W+ Club.
More than a year later, the club welcomed Canadian Solar. This photovoltaic giant has once again reached a new level of strength.
A photovoltaic giant that doesn't make "single-choice" decisions
As a "long-standing player" in the photovoltaic industry, Canadian Solar currently focuses on TOPCon cell modules, but it has always been very optimistic about heterojunction (HJT) cell technology.
In 2020, Canadian Solar announced plans to build a pilot line for HJT cells at its Jiaxing Research Institute to develop high-efficiency HJT cell modules.
In March 2022, Dr. Jiang Fangdan, Director of the Canadian Solar Jiaxing Research Institute, stated: "2022 is a crucial year for HJT technology." "We expect to achieve several cost-reduction and efficiency-improvement technological breakthroughs in heterojunction technology by the end of this year."
Although Canadian Solar suddenly announced at the end of 2022 that it would focus on TOPCon cell technology, it has been committed to the R&D and mass production of heterojunction cells.
In its 2024 annual report, Canadian Solar stated that it iteratively developed HJT modules based on 210mm silicon wafers in 2024, further expanding the application scenarios of this series of products. The company's upcoming HiHero7 series products continue the high reliability characteristics of HJT products, with higher cell efficiency and power, and a maximum module power of 730W and a module efficiency of 23.5%.
To meet the demand of industrial and commercial customers for high-efficiency HJT products, the company plans to launch a medium-sized HJT product based on 182*210 silicon wafers in 2025, with a maximum power of 645W and a module efficiency of 23.9%.
In September 2025, Canadian Solar released its new generation of low-carbon modules (HJT). The HiHero series modules boast a power output of up to 660W, an efficiency of 24.4%, and carbon emissions of only 285kg CO2 eq./kWp, setting a new industry low. This demonstrates its outstanding strength in heterojunction cell technology.
A Giant That Doesn't Compromise
More importantly, Canadian Solar consistently prioritizes profit in its photovoltaic module business, leading the high-quality development of heterojunction modules globally.
While many leading module manufacturers continue to suffer losses, Canadian Solar maintains its profit-first principle, keeping its photovoltaic business's gross margin healthy by focusing on high-margin markets. In the first three quarters of 2025, Canadian Solar achieved revenue of 31.27 billion yuan and net profit attributable to shareholders of 989 million yuan. It is one of the few module companies that has maintained profitability.
